Weight Watchers Points Plus Values of Halloween Treats

Happy Halloween Eve.

Halloween is definitely NOT my favorite time of year.  As a teacher, it is NEVER a good idea to give kids bags full of candy and then expect them to fully function the next day week.  Oh, and for a dieter, it is a nightmare!  All that candy just taunting you to, “Eat me…please!”  “You deserve it.  You are so stressed.  One won’t hurt!”  I have a great idea, lets put tons of crack in front of a crack addict and see how they respond.  For me, that is Halloween.  Tons of candy in front of a candy-oholic.  Brilliant!

I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer to those of you that love the holiday.  It just really isn’t my cup of tea.  My husband and I were actually contemplating NOT giving out candy.  Turing out the lights and watching our newest obsession, The Walking Dead, in the dark.  Well, The Walking Dead and the dark don’t mix so we decided to go ahead and pass out candy.

At Costco this past weekend, I bought this:

150 piece chocolate candy bag from Costco

Yes, a huge 150 piece bag of CHOCOLATE!  Aghhhhh!!!!  What was I thinking.  I know…it was cheaper than if I waited but all of those in that bag are my favs!

I knew if it was sitting out, I would open it so I went and put it in the closet in one of our back bedrooms!  Out of sight, out of mind!

For those of you wanting to allow yourself some sweetness this Halloween, I found this list on a Weight Watchers message board of our favorite Halloween treats.  I am not sure if it is 100% accurate but it looks about right to me.

Don’t see your favorite Halloween candy on this list and want to see even more?!?  Hungry Girl put out an extensive list also!  You can see her list here.

So, before you indulge in that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, calculate the points and track it!  You can still eat it as long as you track it.  I think that will keep the pieces you consume down to a minimum.  At least it will for me.  If I don’t track it, I will go WAY off the deep end.  If I at least track the pieces I eat, maybe my weight gain can be a minimum!

Whatever you do, enjoy the kids and their excitement and cute costumes and how much THEY love it.  And then, Friday morning, send in a sweet “I’m Sorry” gift for their teacher.  Just kidding!

What are your plans for Halloween this year?

That IS a great bag … I like everything in it too! I don’t dare buy something like that early, not only as I might be tempted, but I’d have to keep my five boys out of it as well.

I’m going to the school to help with my 4th grader’s Halloween party tomorrow. I’m not sure if I’m on door duty, or accompanying the kids duty for the evening … I’m not even sure which one I want.

Our kids are out of school on Friday as a comp day for P/T Conferences … so I get my kids and their sugar highs.

… and The Walking Dead is great *Ü*

We weren’t very rich when I was growing up, so my mom would buy the bulk bag at Costco that had all the sucky candy. I always wanted to be the “cool house” in the neighborhood that had the GOOD candy so now I always buy name brand. But the way I keep myself from eating candy is to buy candy I DON’T like. So this year we’re giving out Butterfingers. They’re still brand name, but I don’t like those so no temptation whatsoever!

haha, what a piece of advice, yes as long we watch our intake of that candy!

Fellow chocoholic here! I purposefully bought non-chocolate candy (Jolly Ranchers, to be precise!) so I wouldn’t be tempted to indulge. And I LOVE The Walking Dead! I’ve been there since episode 1 :) I hope you survived Dieters Torture Holiday in tact! I’m also maintaining a weight loss blog, if anyone would care to stop by and comment or post their own story, I’d love to see you! You can find it at vickyfountain.com. God bless!
