Get ready…Boy have I got a success story for you today.
Have you been simply sitting in a chair, out of breath, breathing heavy and sound like you just ran a half marathon? Do you have aches and pains on your body that should not be there for your age? Are you just plain unhappy with yourself and don’t want to die young?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, meet Nisey (pronounced Knee-sea). She was in the same boat you are in and decided to do something about it.
She walked into Weight Watchers in February of 2011 and in November of 2012, she had successfully lost over 101 pounds!
Doesn’t she look amazing? I know you will find inspiration in her words.
What made you decide to join Weight Watchers?
I decided to join Weight Watchers because after looking into the info of various weight loss programs, Weight Watchers was the only one that seemed to make sense. It reflected that successful weight loss is a lifestyle change and NOT just a “here, eat our food and lose weight” system! You have to want to learn how to eat and do the work. Additionally, it was also the only program in which many of my dear friends joined and had excellent success!
When did you join and how much weight did you lose?
I began my journey February 9, 2011 and a yr and 9 months later, loss a total of 101.4 lbs
What was your motivation to lose weight?
My motivation to begin loving me came from various places:
The first realization came when my family and I were sitting for dinner one evening and as I was SITTING, I was breathing so hard that you would have thought I just completed a half marathon!! Ridiculous!!!
The next motivation came in the form of experiencing life, meaning, I lost my Father-n-law and Step-father (who raised me from the age of 2), within two weeks of each other. Then, exactly one month to the date after, I lost the father that raised me and my biological father was injured on the job and suffered a traumatic brain injury which resulted in me having to take care of him! Experiencing all of these events, so close together, made me very depressed and I began to feel like a person I no longer knew. I realized it was time to change!
The third motivation was the extreme amount of pain I was experiencing on a daily basis. At the age of 34, there was no reason why I should be feeling like I was 80 yrs old!! Joint pain, back pain, heart flutters etc. All of these pains made me realize it was time for a change.
Last, but NOT least, the person that I push for everyday who truly inspired, demanded and deserved my change…my precious gift from God, my son DaKaari who at the time was 4 yrs old. Watching him grow and seeing all of his energy made me want to be able to be involved actively as he experience life. I knew I would not be able to do that if I didn’t take care of myself! I also realized that, as parents, it’s our responsibility to teach and lead by example. So, when my son one day stated, “I want to have a fat belly like Daddy,” I knew at that moment that we were neglecting the healthy side of our God given privilege of guiding our son. Hearing that statement from our son made me realize that God gave our bodies the ability to do many amazing things IF we take care of it!!!
So, after many months of prayer and meditation, I made a vow to God and to Myself to take care and love the Beautiful Temple He placed me in….it was time for a complete lifestyle change!!!
What kept you on track with the program?
I stayed on track by regularly reflecting on my reasons for starting and my vow….regularly attending my WW meetings (Weight Watcher Wednesdays)!
I also cleaned out my bus of supporters! Out with the negative, don’t wanna change people; In with the positive and “let’s make a change also” people!!! Beep Beep!! A progressively moving forward Bus!!!
What is the biggest difference you have noticed because of your weight loss?
The biggest difference I observed was my Mental Attitude! As I look back and evaluate my journey, I realized that if I had NOT changed my mental disposition along the way, success would have been impossible!!! Detoxing the mind so that the mind and body can function as one, is THE MOST difficult thing I have had to do but I don’t regret it because I Love Myself now!!!
What advice can you give to others thinking of joining Weight Watchers?
To those looking to join our Weight Watchers family, I say first have a SOLID reason for joining because work and effort is involved! Find a meeting location and a group leader that works for your personality so that you will attend regularly. Know that you WILL have success IF YOU WANT IT!!!!
Give us a quote or a motto that you have used to keep you focused.
My motto: I Want It, I Deserve It, LET’S GET IT!!!!
To those who come to me and are struggling, most of the time their reason for starting is distorted or foggy! If they have began their journey with the thought of “Dieting” then they have set themselves up for failure! Successful, permanent weight loss HAS to be a LIFESTYLE change! So I encourage them to sit down and really re-examine why they want to lose weight because without a strong reason, how do you transition into the next season of life???
