Old El Paso Frozen Entrees for Two – Review

Today, I got home a little early (early enough to run by the grocery store).  I had a few cancellations in my tutoring schedule so I headed home.  Exhausted from the last two days of conferences, I was really craving Mexican food for dinner.  I was ready to go and bury my face in a big plate of nachos, burritos, tacos or enchiladas.  Oh…and extra cheese dip, with jalapeno.

Well, that would not be such a great choice after last night’s weigh in…I will get to that later!  So, I went to Publix to look around and see what I could make that was comparable but would still keep me on target with counting Weight Watchers points.

I found these Old El Paso frozen entrees for two.

Old El Paso Frozen Entrees for Two

There was a whole case of them for me to choose from!  They had eight different varieties including Chicken or Shredded Beef Enchiladas, Chicken or Beef Burritos, Chicken Quesadillas or Steak Quesadillas, and both Chicken and Steak Fajita Kits.  I got out my handy dandy Weight Watchers app and started scanning.  I wanted an authentic Mexican dinner but also wanted to stay in my points plus range.  As soon as I scanned the enchiladas, I knew my dinner was set!

Old El Paso Shredded Beef Enchiladas

I could choose from the Shredded Beef Enchiladas or the Chicken Enchiladas for 8 points plus per serving.  A serving is half the darn box…Cha Ching!  As you can see, I chose the beef.

I was super excited to get home, put on my jammies and eat a big plate of Mexican food that I could feel good about!

I got home, put on my jammies, popped these in the microwave for three minutes and then finished them off in the oven for 20 minutes.  They were done in a flash and I didn’t have to deal with the noise at a restaurant, the price of the bill, the calories, or the guilt.  Real, authentic mexican food in a flash…at home!

They were made with a chile sauce, shredded beef, a blend of Colby and Monterey Jack Cheese and Onions all wrapped in a corn tortilla (no flour tortillas here!).

So, the real question is, “How did they taste?”  “Did they taste like the plate of burritos I would have had at the local Mexican restaurant?”

They were deelish!  The ancho chile sauce makes them have a bit of a bite (spice) to them but they have just the right amount of heat so it isn’t too much but very flavorful!  The amount of beef was perfect and they were cheesy but not TOO cheesy.  After I ate the serving (3 enchiladas), I was completely satisfied!

Plus, the Shredded Beef Enchiladas are only 330 calories per serving, 11g fat, 22g protein and 35 g of carbs.  HALF the box for only 8 Weight Watchers points plus!

All of that and they were a lot cheaper!  My husband and I both had dinner for only $7.99 (And now through October 25th, find $1 off one (1) coupon in your store flyer on Old El Paso Frozen Entrees, available at Publix)!  Had we gone out, we would have spent that on just ONE of us!

So, save time, save calories, save money and save YOURSELF!  Try these!

Do you want to try one of these delicious El Paso dinners for free?  Oh, and I will also throw in a mexican serving platter and a $10 Publix gift card!  If those sound good to you, just leave me a comment with which variety you would try if you win!  I will pick a winner Friday afternoon, October 25 (as soon as I am done with conferences!).
