The Many Health Benefits of Exercise

This past week I had the pleasure of speaking to a group of women that are Jacynta’s clients and fellow Sparkle peeps.  Jacynta went to the beach and asked me if I would teach some classes on exercise.  I, of course, said, “YES!”  I love teaching and I love inspiring others.  I decided to cover the whole gamete of exercise from WHY to how.  I also allowed the group discussion to help facilitate the meeting also.  I had a great two meetings and I am going to break up the talk into a few posts for you.

With eating being SO important, why bother to exercise?  I know for me, there are some days where I am like, “I don’t feel like exercising so I will just be on point with my eating today and it won’t matter!”  That is somewhat true BUT there are so many reasons to exercise other than to help me lose weight.  In my research for my talk, these are the health benefits to exercising:

  • Exercise helps you lose weight faster
  • Helps prevent high blood pressure
  • Raises good, HDL cholesterol
  • Decreases unhealthy cholesterol
  • Decreases risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Decreases risk of stroke
  • Decreases your risk of type 2 diabetes
  • Decreases your risk of depression
  • Decreases your risk for certain types of cancer
  • Decreases your risk of arthritis
  • Decreases your risk of falling – except when actually exercising (I might have tripped once or twice)
  • Improves your mood – Helps with stress and actually stimulates brain chemicals that make you happier – If you are ever in a bad mood, go for a walk and you will instantly feel better!  Trust me!
Take all that anger to the gym and let is fuel your workout!

Take all that stress to the gym and let is fuel you!

  • Makes you feel better about your appearance and in turn, makes you feel better about yourself – Better self esteem – I know after a workout in the gym, I feel like I instantly look slimmer!
  • Helps you look better NAKED!
Losing Weight Means You'll Look Good in Clothes. Exercising means you'll look good naked.

  • Boosts your energy
  • Helps your lungs work better
  • Helps you sleep better (just don’t exercise too close to bedtime)
  • Improve your sex life – Regular exercise can lead to enhanced arousal in women
  • Reduces symptoms of depression – Exercise can actually act like an anti depressant!

WOW!  I am sure there are more than that list but those are the ones that I found.  Can you believe all of those?  I don’t know about you but I want ALL of those things.  With a simple 30 minutes a day, what excuse do we have NOT to do something?!?  We are too busy?  Well, I can almost guarantee you spend 30 minutes or more on Facebook, or Twitter, or Instagram or watching television.

The only bad workout is the one that didn't happen.

The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen.

Whatever excuse you have NOT to exercise, I am sure there is something on that list up there that would make it worth your while.  Don’t know where to start?  Stay tuned this upcoming week where I will talk to you about HOW to start and how I encouraged my sister to start.  You won’t want to miss it if you are currently not doing much to exercise!

Have a great weekend!  Did you do anything fun yesterday for exercise?
