2015 Vionic Walkabout Challenge

One of my goals this month is to walk more.  I love my weekend walks with my husband.

However, I need to walk more during the week.  I find myself making excuses and not exercising.  This is NOT helping my weight loss!

Vionic Footwear contacted me asking if I would be interested in taking their 2015 Walkabout Challenge.  I was interested (you all know how I love a good challenge) so I clicked on over to this link to check it out.  Basically, when you sign up with just an email, first name, and last name, you are committing to walking 30 minutes a day from today until March 2.  The challenge started on February 1 but it is not too late to join!

I loved the idea of committing to walking 30 minutes a day.  I might have to break it up into two- 15 minute segments but that is ok.  Whatever gets it done.  I don’t know about you but I know I can put in 30 minutes a day.  I can walk in place if I have to while I watch television!

So, what is a Walkabout?

Vionic Walkabout Challenge

A Walkabout is an Australian journey for well-being during which one seeks to clarify his/her life purpose. The Vionic Walkabout challenge is inspired by the Aussies and aims to improve physical and mental well-being by creating healthy habits over the course of 30 days.”

But wait…there is more!  It is a CHALLENGE so are there prizes?  Why, yes, there are!

By participating in Vionic Walkabout, you’ll have the chance to walk away with some seriously great prizes. Through photo and caption contests on Facebook and Instagram, we’ll give away weekly prizes such as new Vionic Shoes, Dr. Weil Cookbooks and Visa gift cards.  Plus, we’ll select a Grand Prize winner to receive an all-expense paid trip to Napa, CA.

All you have to do in order to be entered to win is, while you are out on your walk, snap a picture of something beautiful you see along your walk(s). It could be a beautiful sunrise, a bridge, a flower – anything! Tell us how it moves you. Be sure to use the hash tag #VionicWalkabout to enter.  Post your picture to Vionic’s Facebook or Instagram page (or both) and make sure you include the #vionicwalkabout in order for your picture to enter you into the weekly drawing.  Click HERE for official contest rules.

I don’t know about you but I would LOVE a trip to Napa!  However, I love the idea of committing to walking 30 minutes a day even more.

Anyone out there going to join me?  I hope you will consider it!  What do you have to lose other than some extra weight?!?  Comment below if you are going to join me and let’s encourage one another for the next few weeks!

“Walking is what your body is designed to do. It strengthens almost every major organ in the body, promotes bone density, and boosts the immune system,” says Dr. Weil. “There’s no special skill, training or equipment needed, just the right footwear.”
Research shows that walking as little as 30 minutes a day can lower the risk of heart disease (America’s Number 1 killer) by as much as 40 percent. By even taking two or three 10-15 minute walks per day, people can improve blood pressure, reduce the risk of diabetes and improve mental wellbeing.
Celebrity trainer and fitness expert Juliet Kaska strongly recommends walking as a way to get and stay fit for even beginning exercisers: “Walking is an easy, stress-free exercise, clearing your mind, ?strengthening your heart and toning muscles.”
According to a study by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), 72 percent of Americans say they do not exercise because foot pain prevents them from doing so. This astounding figure emphasizes the importance of getting started with a pair walking-friendly shoes or sandals that are breathable, offer good arch support, are relatively lightweight and have flexible soles to allow the front of the foot to flex comfortably.
Vionic Footwear with Orthaheel Technology offers footwear that helps prevent and alleviate foot pain and fits a variety of lifestyles. Vionic shoes feature a removable orthotic footbed that supports feet and helps realign the lower-legs, improving posture and balance – an ideal option for daily fitness walking.
**Vionic Footwear asked me to join the challenge and sent me a pair of walking shoes.  However, no money was exchanged for this post and all opinions expressed are my own.
