It was exactly three years ago tonight, on a Tuesday, that I made the life-altering decision to walk into Weight Watchers…AGAIN!  This was probably at least my fourth time going into a Weight Watchers center.  Needless to say, I was VERY skeptical.  I have talked to you before about HOW Weight Watchers saved my life.  Now, I am going to talk to myself…three years ago.  Bear with me while I have a conversation with myself the day I decided to go in the door at Weight Watchers:

Hear we go again.  Don’t worry, this time WILL be different.

Yeah, right, I have said that before and look where it got me, heavier than I have EVER been in my life.  Yes, you are quite large but you have a pretty face and you can be successful.  Just go in the door!

I’m tired.  I’m fat.  I’m lazy.  I sleep in the afternoons when I get home from school.  I have NO ENERGY!  Perfect, this is just the thing you need.  Weight Watchers can help you with all those things.  GO-IN-THE-DOOR!

I’m sad.  I’m hopeless.  I can see others judge me because I am so fat and it makes me sad and hopeless.  People will always judge.  Unfortunately that is part of life.  You might be sad and hopeless now but there is hope and laughter (thanks, Jacynta) on the other side of that door.  There are also other people in there feeling and thinking the same things as you and they can help you and support you.

I am not a good role model for my students. Your students love you no matter how you look.  You have impacted them so much and they love you.  Weight doesn’t matter to your students.  Your heart does.

I am a failure.  Yes, you have tried this before but that doesn’t make you a failure.  Going back in the door makes you a success.  Go in!

I am morbidly obese and will probably die early if this continues.  That’s why you REALLY need to get in the door, NOW!

What if I fail like all the times before?  You won’t!  You will have setbacks.  It might take you a while but just DON’T-GIVE-UP because YOU-ARE-WORTH-IT!

Ok…I will do it one more time.  Don’t worry, this time WILL be different.  You WILL be a success!

Have you had conversations in your head like this one?  If only I had been there to talk to myself three years ago.  I would have encouraged myself like I encourage others.  So many times we tell children or others, “It’s ok, you will do better!”  “Just keep trying!”  Why do we beat ourselves up over our own tiny mistakes?  We need to encourage ourselves and talk to ourselves like we would a child or a friend.

Thank you, Weight Watchers for being there.  Thank you for once again opening your doors to a past failure.  Thank you for hiring Jacynta to be an amazing leader and inspire so many, including myself to be successful!

This is MY year.  This year, I will make positive changes in my lifestyle in order to reach goal.  This year, I will become a Lifetime member of Weight Watchers and KNOW what it is like to achieve ULTIMATE success with Weight Watchers and myself.

This is also YOUR year.  This year, I want you to make positive lifestyle changes in order to reach your goals.  YOU-CAN-DO-THIS!  All you have to do is walk in the door, start the program, order the plan, count the calories, whatever YOU choose to do, all you have to do is start.  You’ve got this!  I believe in you, now start believing in yourself!

What plan will you do this year?  What action steps are you going to take in order to be successful?  Start today, start this weekend, start Monday, just start!

    Well isn’t this just perfect!  I’ve started ww for the ….9th, or 10th, who knows, times.  And I love your post.  So fitting for me right now…..Wonderful!  Thank you.  I will bookmark this page and read it often.  Right now I’m at the beginning (only 6 days in) when I have the most determination.  But I know there will be down times and set backs that I WILL get through.  Thanks for this!!!!

    I am so glad I found this today. I am going back Tuesday for the 2nd time and have been saying all those thigs to myself without the great answers of course. So thank you for helping me see I can do this and I will. I am worth it as are we all.

      Way to go Deanna in taking that important first step. I joined on a Tuesday and ended up changing to Monday’s to be with a different leader. Make sure you find a leader that ROCKS. It will make all the difference!

    Seeing this post today confirmed to me that joining WW a 14 months ago was the best decision. I think I started at the same weight you did and though my loss is slow (46.6# in 14 months), I know I will succeed this time! Thank you for writing this!

    I joined WW last June and have lost 34 pounds as of last week! i love finding success stories! I have been trying to encourage everyone in my life to join if they talk about losing weight, however have figured out that they have to want it for themselves more than I want it for them. I was in the same boat wanting kids, but unable to achieve that goal so far, but I have faith that once I hit my goal weight I will have no more issues.       Absolutely they have to want it for themselves. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could want it for others and it happened?!? Keep on keeping on. 34 pounds since June is amazing! God’s plan is perfect.     Very inspirational!  WOW!  Congratulations on your amazing success and huge loss.  I am am repeat Weight Watcher….Lifetime Member (2 times).  I am back on the WW wagon after a gain this past Fall.  I love your posts and your blog. Your posts are getting me UP and moving.  I have low energy and after work, I just want to get in my “stretchy pants” and call it a day.  I MUST get moving! ;-)  I need to work on getting foods in me that help my energy level.  If you or any of your followers have any suggestions?  I would appreciate any tips.

      Yeah…I am so glad! Thanks for your sweet words! I know you are supposed to eat something 30-45 minutes before working out so you have energy to workout. I think it is good to eat a piece of fruit. I find that if I just get on the treadmill, no matter how much energy I have, I always find more when I am on it. It energizes me! Good luck and keep me posted with your success!

    Wow!  You look amazing. I recently just started weight watchers and am the same as your starting weight!  You look amazing!!  Absolutely stunning…What kind of workouts did  you do!?  I’m worried about the other parts of my body when i start shedding the pounds.

      Thank you so much! I actually didn’t work out for the first 75 pounds. Eating is the most important part of the program in the beginning. Don’t worry about your body–it will “bounce” back just fine. I do have loose skin but I would much rather have loose skin than skin full of fat! Good luck! You’ve got this!

    Hi Jennifer,
    I love your persistence and desire. I am struggling and have tried WW once before. It worked as long as I stayed with it. Afterwards I gained more than ever before. Now I am at 180 lbs., which is more than I have ever been, including when I was pregnant. I want to join again but things are tight. I also don’t have much support as I am told “you know how it works just do it”. This is very frustrating as the meetings I think help. It’s a great check in for me. Again, I just started reading your blogs and love them. Good luck on the rest of your journey. Great Job!

      I’m sorry you are struggling and can’t go back to Weight Watchers. It is certainly helpful to go to the meetings. Can you possibly put together a support group close to where you live? If so, maybe you could all support one another and weigh each other in. That way, you would have the accountability there that you need but wouldn’t have to pay WW. Just a thought!
