Happy Sunday! I am back with another fabulous success story! Sarah has lost an amazing 61 pounds!! Here is her before and after picture:
Not only did she lose the weight but she also lost her risk of being diabetic and her anxiety! In return, she now lives a MUCH healthier life!
I know you will find inspiration from her story!
Tell us a little about yourself, your family, your job, etc…
Hey there! My name is Sarah and I’m 27. I live in Calera, Alabama and I’m a homemaker. I have a wonderful husband named Sean. I’m also really close to my parents and my younger sister, who is 24. I have a dog named Baxter.
How long did it take you to get to your ideal weight? Are you there now?
It took me seven months to get to this weight. I’m four pounds away from my goal weight and I’m super excited! This has been a wonderful uphill battle and I’m thankful to the LORD for getting me there!
What was your motivation to lose weight?
I was at the doctor’s for a routine checkup and they took some blood. A few days later, the nurse called me up and told me that I was borderline diabetic. I thought, “Game over.” I took the Coke that was in my hand and threw it out. I knew that it was time to finally make changes.
What made you decide to start your weight loss journey?
Being borderline diabetic and the fact that my clothes didn’t fit right. I hated the fact that I never wanted my picture taken. It was heartbreaking. I knew that I needed to make changes and that I would, but I was scared. Now, I don’t see what I was so scared of!
What kept you on track losing weight?
A lot of things, actually. My faith reassured me that I was never alone. I truly believe in the power of prayer. My husband has also been my rock. When I asked if he would eat healthy with me, he said, “Of course!” I absolutely love making healthy meals and snacks for us and it warms my heart when he says, “This is good!” My parents have also been there for me and my Mom has guided me with what to eat and what not to eat. She’s great!
Tell us about a typical day in terms of eating and exercise.
For breakfast, I have a boiled egg and a fat free yogurt. For lunch, I have a cup of brown rice, half a cup of baked crab meat, one tbsp. of low-sodium soy sauce and a sprinkle of sea salt. For dinner, I love making fresh fish in the oven with Season-All Seasoning and a single serving of sweet potato fries. For a snack, I love almonds, but not too many! I also like to take two pieces of 50 calorie string cheese, dip it in an egg white, put Panko crumbs on top and Season-All Seasoning. I put it in the oven for a few minutes. Ta-da! Baked mozzarella sticks!
For exercise, I started off by walking a mile a day. I raised it to two miles. Now, I do five miles a day. Walking is the best and I don’t need a gym for it!
What is the biggest difference you have noticed because of your weight loss?
My anxiety has cleared up! I’m much more calm now and also have my energy back. I feel like I can take on the world! I also like buying smaller clothes. Not too shabby!
I’m also proud to say that my blood sugar is back down to completely normal! Yay!
What advice can you give to others struggling to lose weight?
Eating healthy should never, ever mean eating boring! There are so many tasty and healthy recipes out there! I was shocked.
The other important thing to know is that it’s a full lifestyle change. You can’t ever go back to the way you used to eat. If you do, the weight will return. It’s OK though, you’ll find that eating healthy is fun with a little creativity!
How do you keep the weight off in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
I found an exercise that I love. Before, I hated exercise with a passion. Now that I learned how great walking is, I’ve had the best time. I’ve also learned to permanently switch to brown foods and to be very low on the sugar. Whole wheat isn’t bad at all. In fact, I love it!
Give us a quote or a motto that you have used to keep you focused.
“When I am afraid, O Lord Almighty, I put my trust in you. I trust in God and am not afraid; I praise him for what he has promised. What can a mere human being do to me?” – Psalm 56:3-4
Another one that I heard on a British weight loss series that I loved was, “Never sacrifice taste!” You shouldn’t be miserable. If you are, then you won’t succeed! You can do it!
If you’re struggling with weight, it’s OK. I had a problem for a majority of my twenties and now I’m finally in control. It may take you a little while to figure things out, but when you do, it will all be worth it in the end. I promise.
Wow, Sarah! You look great! You are so cute and I know you are living the life you have always wanted. THANK YOU for sharing your story with us! Here is to the rest of your life!
