Vacation – Not a Good Excuse

Vacation

Vacation - Not an Excuse!

We are in the midst of vacation time.  Many people are taking vacations or are getting ready to go on vacation before school goes back.  Have you ever said to yourself, “It’s ok to get off plan, I’m on vacation”  or “I don’t have to exercise, I’m on vacation!”

If you are like me, you have said this more than once.  I decided when I got in the car on Saturday to go on vacation that this time is going to be different.  This vacation is not going to be an excuse for me.  I am going to stay on track and exercise and continue to not give up what I want most for what I want at the moment.

Well, it is Wednesday night.  The vacation is more than half over.  There are only two more days left in Florida and then we head back to Atlanta on Saturday.  So, how am I doing?  Here is an update.

Did you read my running in the rain post?  That was my Sunday exercise.  Monday and Tuesday were both great workout days for me.  I went on a run Monday and a walk on Tuesday.  Both were longer than 45 minutes.  Today, we went to Destin to meet some friends at the beach and left pretty early so I didn’t get my workout in.  I did however carry an extremely large cooler to and from the beach that was well over 12 pounds.  Does that count?!?!  Yeah, I didn’t think so either.  Tomorrow and Friday I plan to do the early morning workout again and then Saturday, I will workout on my treadmill again when I get home.  Vacation, not a good excuse NOT to exercise.

As far as eating goes, I have been very careful to eat light during the day to make sure I save lots of Weight Watchers Points Plus for dinner (Kristen’s mom makes some great dinners!).  I also have been trying to follow some of Dr. Oz’s advice and do the timely things he recommended.

I did splurge on my eating today when we went to a new yogurt shop and had some frozen yogurt.  Then, tonight after dinner I was craving a chocolate chip cookie and if you even mention something in front of Kristen’s parents, it will be done so I had three cookies put on a plate in front of me in a matter of minutes.  I gave one to Kristen’s daughter, Blake and ate the other two.  But, I said “No” to the donuts that were offered today so that is a victory.  Back on the eating plan tomorrow.  Today was the only “cheat” I allowed myself to have.

I have been on too many vacations past and present where I have “allowed” myself to eat what I want, not exercise, and do what I want because “I am on vacation!”  Not anymore!  I deserve better.  I deserve to be able to go home and say, I had a great time and I won’t spend the next month making up for my poor choices.  This vacation has proved that it can be done.

Here’s to two more days of success!

Way to go Jenn, and keeping yourself accountable to your readers! I will start good and then lose motivation often. Life is always easier at home! And dont think of it as cheating, you have 49 extra points plus a week, great for vacation!!!

Thanks Heidi! I always need the reminder about the 49 extra points because I don’t ever use them! Thanks!

Good for you Jenn. I too was on vacation last week and tracked everything i ate and excersized. That was a first for me too. I can’t tell you how good i felt and it continued when i got home.  I haven’t weighed in yet I missed it saturday but will weigh in this week. I am trying not to focus too much on the scale and trying to focus on the good choices I made. Enjoy the rest of your vacation

I’m coming up on vacation pretty soon and I’m nervous about it! I’m going to be in europe for 2 weeks and mostly I’m wishing I could have my iphone with me so I could use my WW app to track and stay accountable. It’s going to be hard without it but I’m going with the mindset that I can still do it without the app. Upside is that the last week will be at my vacation house which does have wifi, so I should be able to use the app for that week at least. I’m also planning to make exercise a part of the experience – We’ve got walking and bike tours planned, and I’m also hoping to get in some hiking and lots and lots of swimming. Not so much structured exercise like going on a run, but I’m definitely planning to stay active :)

With all of that walking, you should burn lots of points. Just try to be mindful of everything you put in your mouth and do your best to guesstimate the point value trying to stay in range. Most of all, enjoy your vacation!
