Top 10 Favorite Dr. Seuss Quotes

I don’t know if you know this or not but today, March 2, we celebrate an amazing man, Dr. Seuss.  It is Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday!

As many of you know, I am an elementary school teacher.  At our school today, we had “Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character” day.  I decided to play along (the things we do for kids!) and I dressed up like A Bad Case of the Stripes.  While I was up late last night making homemade face paint, I had to remind myself several times that I was doing it for the children.  Not because I HAD to.  Not for a raise.  Not for a job promotion.  It is ALL for the kids.  So, here I am with my certainly homemade costume:

I woke up with a bad case of the stripes!

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, I have compiled a list of my top ten favorite Dr. Seuss quotes. Next to the quote, I have added how weight loss correlates to the quote!

10.  “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”  Are you in love with your life and who YOU are?

9.  “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”  You choose the direction you are going.  Only YOU can decide.

8.  “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”  You already know the answers…

7.  “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”  Start caring about yourself, today.  Or…it’s not going to get any better!

6.  “I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I’ve bought a big bat. I’m all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!”  Trouble is going to come at you from all directions.  Get out your “bat” and start swinging.

5.  “If things start happening, don’t worry, don’t stew, just go right along and you’ll start happening too.”  Put one foot in front of the other.  Take it one day at a time.

4.  “Only you can control your future.”  You are the only one who can change your future.

3.  “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”  NO ONE knows us better than we know ourselves!

2.  “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”  Find the positive in every situation and be thankful it happened!

And my all time favorite:

1.  “So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life’s A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you’ll move mountains.”  YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!  YOU WILL MOVE MOUNTAINS!  Just step with care and great tact and make sure you balance carefully!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss.  Thank you for your gift of writing that you have given so many!  I wish I could impact half as many children in my life as you have!

About

My name is Jennifer, I’m 33 and I currently live in a suburb outside of Atlanta. I live with my husband, Jason and Shi-tzu, Maggie. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
My full time job is teaching elementary school. My part time job is private tutoring after school for grades K-6. I have been on my weight loss journey my entire life but just began to take it seriously two years ago when I decided it was time to start a family. I didn’t want to be one of those people who others look and and say, “Is she pregnant or just really fat?” At the rate I was going, that question would certainly be asked. So, two years ago I joined Weight Watchers. Now, closing in on losing 100 pounds, my life is healthier and I am happier. Now…bring on the baby!
My blog is here for you to be inspired, learn something new, and hear all about all new products I try. Join me on this weight loss journey as I go through ups and downs, good and bad, and continue to take it one day at a time!

I just found your blog and I have to tell you it was a little strange because we have so much in common.  I am also an elementary teacher, I am training for my first half-marathon (but mine is in May), I am also on a weight loss journey and have lost 60 pounds (but struggling to lose more), I did mine with weight watchers and exercise also, and finally, the oddest thing is I dressed up as Daisy head Mayzie for Dr. Seuss day.  I sorta feel like I was reading a lot about myself reading through older blog posts.  Good luck with your half marathon and I will be following your blog from now on!
