Take the First Step

Happy MLK Day!  I am at home today and I will celebrate my dad’s birthday tonight so it is a good day for me for many reasons!

Yesterday in church, our pastor talked about Faith.  He gave this MLK quote and I just loved it and KNEW I had to share it with you!

Faith is Taking the First Step Even when you don't see the whole staircase Faith…it is so hard yet so simple all at the same time.

It was just over four years ago when I walked into Weight Watchers for the upteenth time.  Did I think I would successfully lose 100 pounds?  Nope.  Did I think there was a possibility that the program could work?  Sure!  I mean, how many times has it been voted number one for weight loss programs?  I had faith in the program but very little faith in myself.

However, I took the first step.  I walked through the doors with my dad, weighing over 270 pounds, and I had faith that maybe this time Weight Watchers would work for me too!

Did I see the whole “weight loss staircase?”  Nope.

Have I stumbled down a few steps?  Absolutely.

Have I thrown myself down a few steps?  Unfortunately, yes.

Have I walked down some and ran down others?  Yes, yes, yes!

Have I loved descending down the staircase and the journey of the walk?  Without a doubt!

Have I reached the bottom, the prize, made it to my destination?  Not yet!

Will I make it to the bottom?  WITHOUT A DOUBT!

How do I know?

Because I have faith.  I have faith in myself.  I have faith in the program and I know that I will get there.

One-Step-At-A-Time

I want to encourage you today to take the first step.  It doesn’t have to be into a Weight Watchers.  It can be anything you have faith in.  But, before you can be successful, you MUST take the first step.  Believe in yourself and make today your day!

I started trying to lose weight in Feb 2012. I needed to lose 55lbs. So far because my weight yo yo’d a lot I have only lost 25lbs. Over the years I have learned a few things.
    1. You MUST work out, even if its a 20min power walk, it’s better than a nap.
    2. You MUST figure out a meal plan, find out what works for you. You don’t have to follow any one’s plan. That’s what works for them.
    3. Calorie Counting is the best thing I have ever done. It brings you to reality on what and how much food youre eating. I have tried a few but my favorite is My fitness pal. I have never lost as much and you can have friends. You get to watch eachothers weight loss.
    4. Don’t eat late. That has been a problem because I am very busy at work. But this year I am making it amust to eat when I can and healthy.
    5. Don’t over carb. Carbs, I love carbs; potatoes, sweet potatoes, chips, pita bread, roti bread, any kind of fresh warm breat, crossiants, wonder bread ETC (I can go on)
But, you have to limit it.
    6. Find out what foods you digest fast and slow. This sounds difficult but you’ll know, monitor when you have a bowel movement and when you ate.
    7. (This should have been #1) LOTS AND LOTS of WATER! At least 9 glasses of water. And if you drink a cup of water before you eat it helps you from thinking your starving. It calms the air and bile in your stomach.
    8. Weigh your self often, and keep track of your measurements. (Neck, Hips, Thighs).
    9. You can eat whatever you want when calorie counting. It’s about quantity and quality. Becareful when eating out, a salad at TGIF for example can be 1200 calories which depending on your weight that can be all your supposed to have. Check out the restaurants low cal menu. The Cheese Cake Factory and other restaurants have one.
    10. Don’t starve yourself. Your body begans to get comfortable when you have been a certain weight for a while and may be against the weight loss. Following CRASH no FOOD diets is not good. Juicing is okay as long as it has all of your daily nutrients, if not it’s reccommended you have the nutrient seperately.
You can find me on My fitness pal under KatnKandy.
Let’s Diet together. I still have 30lbs to go and now I know how to go! I recently ordered Jillian Michaels work out DVD from AMAZON. I am trying to work out an hour per day.

Too true, faith can accomplish so much. Really it’s a mindset – when you have faith, you subconsciously believe you can and will do something, and the rest of your body follows suit. Congrats on your success!

Amen, sister! Sometimes it does seem like it is easier to have faith in something or someone else outside of ourselves but having faith IN ourselves is a challenge…but it is necessary to achieving our greatest goals.
