Holy FIT!  You are going to love her story!

Tell us a little about yourself, your family, your job, etc…
I’m just a normal girl with a mission: get fit and get healthy. I have a full-time job, a super supportive husband, and the cutest dog in the world (Bailey). I used to have a very high-stress and fast-paced job, but not anymore. I work in an office (which I never thought I would want to do), and I love it. No, it’s not my dream job, but it allows me to do things I have always dreamed about. Having a steady schedule every week gives me the opportunity to eat right and work out on a regular basis. I work with great people, and I couldn’t ask for more. Well, maybe more money, but who doesn’t need that, right!?

I had a HUGE stumble in my journey last year. I was rockin and rollin in boot camp, ran my first 5K, and won a fat loss challenge. When I lost my grandparents and got overwhelmed with the stress of every day life, I flat out quit. I stopped working out, stopped eating right, and I hid on the couch. I went back to all my old habits of eating junk, drinking, and getting lost in tv shows so I wouldn’t have to think about my own life. I started eating candy all day at my desk, and I started going back to Sonic to load up on cheese sticks and cherry vanilla Dr. Peppers. Before I knew it, I had gained back everything I worked SO hard to lose. From February to August 2013, I had lost 15 pounds and 6% body fat. From August to December 2013, I gained 15 pounds and increased my body fat. 4 months was all it took to gain back what took 7 months to work off!

Well, things changed when I went on a vacation with my family in December. We were going out to eat one night, and I put on a pair of jeans (that were too big and were baggy in August) – and they almost didn’t button. They suffocated me so much that when I sat down at the restaurant, all my rolls popped out over the top and I was super uncomfortable. In that moment, I realized something needed to change and fast. I made the decision to go back to boot camp and start eating right again. Since January 7th, I have lost 13 pounds and 3.5% body fat! I don’t know that I have ever been this happy with the way I look. I am running my first half-marathon in April, and I am bound and determined to wear a bikini without any shorts on this summer!

How long did it take you to get to your ideal weight? Are you there now?
I used to be fixated on an ideal number that I wanted to see pop up on the scale, but not anymore. I have learned that when it comes to losing weight, body fat is what really matters. Happiness is not measured in pounds!! 🙂 I have a scale that measures body fat, muscle percentage, and weight. My goal is to hit 18% body fat someday, and I am getting closer one day at a time.

What was your motivation to lose weight?
My motivation to get healthy came after the sudden loss of a very good friend of mine in January of 2013. He passed away unexpectedly, and it was a slap in the face reminder that life is short. I have never been confident in myself, and I did not want to go another day hating how I looked and felt.

What made you decide to start your weight loss journey?
I started my journey because it was just time. There is never a perfect time for anything, and I got sick of waiting for it to come. I was ready to be the confident, happy, fit girl that I have always dreamed of being.

What kept you on track losing weight?
Being a part of boot camp has played a huge role in keeping me on track. I have met some amazing people, made friends, and there is accountability. If I don’t show up to work out, trust me – I will hear about it! 🙂 As far as food is concerned, I just keep myself on track. I put a lot of my time and thought into planning my meals, so it just doesn’t make sense to blow it off after working so hard to get a plan together.

Tell us about a typical day in terms of eating and exercise.
My typical day starts out with me hitting snooze about 4 times, and eventually getting out of bed. I make protein pancakes for breakfast, and I head to work. Around 11:00, I have my mid-morning snack, which is usually nonfat plain greek yogurt with dark chocolate cocoa powder. Once 1:00 hits, I am ready for lunch! My lunch is always a mix of protein, carbs, and green veggies. Whether it’s turkey chili and broccoli, or chicken with sweet potatoes and baby spinach – it’s a healthy meal, and it’s NOT fast food! Around 3:00, I have my afternoon snack – which is the same as my morning snack. I shoot to have 3 of my (32 oz) water bottles down before 4:00 – so before I leave work, I’ve already had a 3/4 gallon of water. I change into my workout gear around 4:45, and once 5:00 hits, I am out the door! I attend boot camp 4 nights a week from 5:30-6:30, and I run on Saturdays. My boot camp is based off of HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts. It’s a challenge, and I love it! Fridays and Sundays are my rest days, unless I’m feeling frisky and want to get in some extra workouts. By the time I get home after boot camp, it’s about 7:30. My husband is awesome and usually has already cleaned the kitchen so I can go straight in and get to work cooking. Our go-to meal is roasted sweet potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts, and crockpot chicken. I add in different recipes at least once a week. After my shower and before I go to bed, I have 1/2 tbsp all natural almond butter. It’s like my little treat at the end of the day!

What is the biggest difference you have noticed because of your weight loss?
The biggest difference I have noticed is my desire to help others and my confidence. I have learned SO much about how to eat and workout over the past year, and I want to pay it forward and help other people too. My perspective on health and fitness is totally different than it used to be because now I know that it IS possible for me, and that I CAN do it. I want to help people realize that they can do it too! I have developed a passion for teaching others about how to eat right and workout, and it’s so awesome!

What advice can you give to others struggling to lose weight?
Get out of your own way! Believe in yourself, stop doubting your capabilities, and never ever give up. Surround yourself with people who are like-minded, positive, and supportive of your goals. Be willing to learn new things, and don’t let fear hold you back. Remember WHY you started your journey, and don’t let anything hinder you from achieving your goals, NO MATTER WHAT!!!

How do you keep the weight off in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
Living a healthy lifestyle has become a part of who I am. I used to think it was a pain, but now it’s just what I do. I have a plan for my food, and I have a plan for my workouts that I follow every week. Instead of thinking about everything all at once, I focus on my goals one week at a time. I plan my meals every week, I go grocery shopping every weekend, and I prep my meals every Sunday. I would have to say that the key to my success with a healthy lifestyle is planning ahead and being prepared!

Give us a quote or a motto that you have used to keep you focused.
If you have discipline, drive, and determination…ANYTHING is possible!

When it comes to health and fitness, I have learned that you need to do it FOR YOU. You can’t do it for someone else or something else, you have to do it for yourself. It’s not always easy, and you will face challenges. You will want to quit sometimes, and you will fall down. The most important thing is that you NEVER GIVE UP. EVER.

As a result of friends and family asking what I was doing to get healthy, I created a Facebook page where I could share my story. I thought just a few people would “like” it, but it has turned into so much more than that. I now have a blog, a Pinterest account, a Twitter account, and an Instagram account. One day, I will get my certification in fitness nutrition, and I will be offering custom meal plans, but until then – I am working on reaching out to as many people as possible! If you know of anyone who might be interested in following me, please do me a favor and pass along my information! 🙂

Isn’t she amazing!?!  Great job Kelli!  I love that you decided to make a change and you DID IT!  Way to go!  THANK YOU for sharing your story with us!

Guys…she has some amazing recipes on her blog so make sure you go and check it out!
