Tell us a little about yourself.
I am Julie, age 41. I am from Cleveland, Ohio. I have an 8 year old who is everything to me and I have a British husband named Dave -who I meant online. We have been married for 15 years (in April)!
How long did it take you to get to your goal weight?
It took me over 3 1/2 years to get to goal. I lost 312 pounds total.
What was your motivation to lose weight?
My son was my motivation.
I had tried dozens (hundreds?) of times to lose weight and sometimes I was successful, but I didn’t get that fire going all the way, until I had my son.
What made you decide to start your weight loss journey?
I was sick and tired of being sick and tired! Life was HARD. I was not able to enjoy my son’s first months as much as I should have been able to, because I was miserable. I wanted to be a better mom, happier and confident.
What kept you on track losing weight?
Weight Watchers really does do all the work for you, but I do believe “anything” will work for you if you commit to it. I plan my days out ahead of time (even now). I write everything down and I even made friends at the gym, so now I ENJOY going to do my workouts.
Tell us about a typical day in terms of eating and exercise.
I try to go by an 80/20 way of life and it usually works.
I eat pretty healthy most of the time. We do go out to eat on Saturdays and I will always work in something if I really want it-ice cream, froyo, Starbucks, chocolate.
I eat a lot of oatmeal, Greek yogurt, cheese, lean chicken breast, and high fiber cereal. I do not have breads that often, mainly because its something I can live without, but also because its harder to work in the calorie.
I work out five times a week, doing cardio each time, for over an hour each day. I also do strength training once a week.
How do you keep the weight off in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
I work out a lot, I always try to keep moving more. I still write every single meal/food down. I still weigh and measure my food. I think once you get a little too cocky and think you can judge how much a portion of pasta is, you start to run into trouble.
What is the biggest difference you have noticed because of your weight loss?
Life is EASY & FUN.
Nothing is hard! I do not take life for granted now. I cherish the bike rides I am able to go on with my husband and son. I love NOT having to shop from a catalog! I went from a size 6x to a size 4 pants. Shopping is my new addiction!
Give us a quote or a motto that you have used to keep you focused.
A moment on the lips, forever on the hips. Ask yourself before you eat something, IS IT WORTH IT?
What advice can you give to others struggling to lose weight?
Don’t give up, keep trying. Forgive yourself if you screw up, and be accountable to yourself.
WOW Julie! Amazing story of what following a plan will do! Losing an average of 100 pounds a year, for three years to give you a total of 312 pounds GONE in three and a half years. It really just shows that if people put their minds to something, anything, it can be done!
You are now an amazing example to your son of health and I know he LOVES having an active, healthy mom! Way to go!
