Tell us a little about yourself, your family, your job, etc…
My name is Emily and I live in Napa, CA. I am married to the love of my life and I have been a preschool teacher for 9 years now.

How long did it take you to get to your ideal weight? Are you there now?
I started in February of 2011 and I reached my goal this last November 2014.  I lost a total of 162 pounds.

I personally would like to lose another 10 lbs but my body is resisting it.

What was your motivation to lose weight?
I had bought a pair of pants online and they were a size 26w which is huge and they showed up and didn’t fit me! I had had enough. I am now a proud size 8!

Emily Before and After Picture

What made you decide to start your weight loss journey?
I have been overweight my entire life. I always have wanted children and I knew that at the weight I was at it wouldn’t be very healthy. I initially set out to lose about 40 lbs but I just kept going. I also hated working out until I discovered weight training. I absolutely fell in love with the sport.

What kept you on track losing weight?
Honestly I think seeing my results. I used MyFitnessPal to track my food and exercises and week by week I would see the scale go down and it helped to keep me motivated.

Tell us about a typical day in terms of eating and exercise.
When I was on my weight loss journey I would keep to a 1500 calorie a day regimen. I ate as healthy as possible sticking to low fat, proteins, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. I exercised twice a day. In the morning I would weight train and in the evening I would focus on cardio. It was a lot of work but it sure paid off for me.

What is the biggest difference you have noticed because of your weight loss?
Feeling free. Feeling light. Being in the best shape of my life and being able to buy clothes ANYWHERE.

What advice can you give to others struggling to lose weight?
Find something that works for you and that you can do for the rest of your life! You can’t look at it as a diet because you will fail. This is a life style change.

How do you keep the weight off in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
I eat as healthy as I can and stay as active as I can. I try my best to only workout once a day now but if life happens and I slip up then I have the tools I need to make sure that I don’t gain it back.

Give us a quote or a motto that you have used to keep you focused.
Stick with it. It takes 3 solid weeks to detox and if you can stay flawless for those three weeks it will get easier. I promise. If I can do it anyone can!

THANK YOU Emily for sharing your story with us.  I love that you said if you can do it, anyone can.  I think it just takes believing in ourselves.
