Weight Loss Success Story: Brittney Harrell

Happy Sunday!  I don’t know about where you are but it’s a hot one here in Georgia!  I still hope to get out and get some activity today or at least clean my house!  Go out and get some activity in people!

Today’s success story is a beautiful lady named Brittney.  She started her journey at 280 pounds.  In just two short years, she has managed to shed 85 pounds and is living a whole new life!

Brittney Before and After losing 85 pounds

She looks amazing and I can’t wait for you to read her story!

Tell us a little about yourself, your family, your job, etc…
I am 25 year Executive Assistant to a CEO working in Chicago. I grew up on Kansas City BBQ and fried chicken, and am a complete foodie to this day. I took a daring risk 1 and 1/2 years ago and moved to a brand new city where I didn’t know a soul, deciding to change my lifestyle habits along the way. I spend my free time exploring what my new city has to offer or shamelessly watching Netflix with my cats.

How long did it take you to get to your ideal weight? Are you there now?Brittney Before Losing Weight
2 years. I made the decision to move to Chicago and jumpstarted my weight loss in my hometown.Upon moving, I incorporated more walking into my daily activities, becoming a tourist in my own city. I am 15 pounds from my final goal weight and am the smallest I’ve been since grade school!

What was your motivation to lose weight?
I have been overweight my entire life, coming from an obese family of yo-yo dieters and even gastric bypass surgery recipients. Every event was and still is centered around food. I grew up eating anything and everything I wanted without a second thought. I cringed at photos of myself and realized I was going down a horrible path in my early 20’s.

The final breaking point was sitting in a Taco Bell parking lot on my lunch break, ashamed to eat my 3 burritos and 2 tacos in front of others because I’d be judged.

What made you decide to start your weight loss journey?
I no longer wanted to be looked at differently because of my size. I moved to Chicago from my hometown and realized it was my chance to have a new beginning.

What kept you on track losing weight?
I logged my calories daily on MyFitnessPal which was a great opportunity to see exactly what I was putting into my body. My little snacks here and there were adding up. I kept mysef on a strict 1,200 calorie a day diet and slowly incorporated walking.

Tell us about a typical day in terms of eating and exercise.
I monitor my calorie and carb intake on MyFitnessPal and walk 2 miles a day to and from work. I do all of my errands on foot, including grocery shopping.

What is the biggest difference you have noticed because of your weight loss?
My health and body feel significantly better. I used to be out of breath climbing stairs, always lethargic and feeling lazy. Now I am able to move at the rate that I want without needing someone to stop or slow down because of me. I can breathe better, less body aches, and no longer feel completely isolated from the world because of my size.

What advice can you give to others struggling to lose weight?
Do not get discouraged if you have a bad day. This is normal. Don’t use this as an excuse to give up. Just simply start again the next morning. I would have given up ages ago if I beat myself up for having that extra cookie every now and then.

How do you keep the weight off in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
I remind myself that I am not dieting, but making a lifestyle change. I do not completely limit myself from foods I enjoy, I just ensure that I balance my meals as best that I can and watch my portions.

Give us a quote or a motto that you have used to keep you focused.
Every day is a new beginning!
