Stuck in Reverse

Tears Stream Down Your Face

Last night Jason and I were watching the show, The Voice on TV.  One of our favorite singers sang a song by Coldplay called Fix You.  Here is a You Tube video with the lyrics.  I would recommend watching the You Tube video before reading my post, especially if you are not familiar with the song.

Jason played the song loudly through our home stereo system and I found myself crying.  Jesus spoke to me through this song and it totally related to my weight loss struggles and probably your weight loss struggles too!

Do you ever feel like you are stuck in reverse?  I have felt that way for a few months now.  After finishing my competition in January, I have “let myself go”.  I have lost myself and lost time and that can’t be replaced.  Here are a few of the lyrics and how I related to them:

“When you try your best and don’t succeed” - This one is self explanatory but I will give you a recent example from my journey.  Last week I was perfect Monday through Friday afternoon with my weight loss goals.  I was writing down everything I ate and staying within my WW point range.  As soon as the weekend hit and father’s day festivities hit, I gave in to temptations.  Then, all the hard work I put in all week long was for not.

“When you get what you want but not what you need!” – This is for every time we give in to temptation for unhealthy food.  It is what we WANT but certainly NOT what we NEED!!!

“And the tears come streaming down your face.” - Have you gotten to that point in your weight loss journey where you are sick of it all and you just have a good cry?  If you haven’t, trust me, you will!

“When you lose something you can’t replace!” – How about all of those years I lost when I was morbidly obese?  I can’t replace those.  How about all the times that I chose to sit on my arse and not do something fun because I was “too tired!”  All of that time is lost and can’t be replaced!

Here comes the best part:

“Lights will guide you Home and ignite your bones and I will try to fix you.” – This is the best part of the whole song in my opinion but especially when I heard it last night.  This is the part where Jesus said to me, “I am your answer Jen.  Stop looking elsewhere and look to me.  I am the way, the truth, and the LIGHT.  Come to me and I will ignite your bones, I will ignite the fire within you to reach healthy goals, I will try to fix you but most importantly,  I will guide you home.”

We don’t have to do this journey alone.  There is someone, Jesus, who would LOVE nothing more than for us to come running to him, with tears streaming down our face and to give it to Him.  He WILL fix us.  He will guide us home.  He will give us the strength we need to finish this journey.

Did you listen to the song?  If you did, what did you think?  Please share your thoughts with us so we can learn and grow from your experiences!  Have a fabulous Thursday and an even better weekend!

So poignant and well-timed for me! I’ve been inspired by your blog and to be as open and honest as I can on my own journey, and this last week I’ve been struggling with many of those same defeated feelings. I was also convicted this last sunday for prizing things (maybe my weight loss?) above God and allowing those things to drive my emotions, instead of him. Thanks for this reminder!
