Act Like a Skinny Person

I cannot begin to tell you how much the emails, comments, and words of encouragement mean to me after yesterday’s post.  I know we ALL have slip-ups and it seems like lots of us have had a few lately.  I am so glad that when I continue to put myself out there (even though sometimes I don’t want to), you guys are blessed from it!  This morning, I got a text with this picture:

Mackenzie

Isn’t she the cutest?

The text also said, “Track those points Swaffy!”

How could I NOT track after that cutie pie said to?!?

On a more serious note, it seems like many of us are in a slump lately.  At our meeting on Friday, my leader reminded us all that we need to “Act like a skinny person!”

How does a skinny person act?  Think about it for a minute.  Think of all the skinny people that you associate with.  Let’s look at some behaviors of skinny people in my life:

  • First, how do they eat?  Well, they eat very little.  When they are full, they actually STOP eating.  Even if they haven’t had dessert yet.  Crazy, right?!?
  • If they have a slip up, do they beat themselves up day after day for it?  Well, I am sure SOME of them do but I think most just put on their big kid panties and move on.  I doubt they talk to themselves for days/weeks like I have.  I doubt they say how stupid they were to eat that.  I doubt they say they are fat and will never be skinny.  Nope, they move on.
  • Next, what if they do overeat let’s say at lunch, what do they do?  Well, they have a very light dinner or might even skip dinner altogether.  What?!?   Not eat a meal?  No!
  • Also, if they get off track for one meal an say eat too many calories, they IMMEDIATELY get back on track.  As in, the next second.  They don’t say, “Forget it, I will start over next week!”
  • Lastly, if they have too much dessert or eat too many calories, they make up for it with extra exercise.  They will work out harder, or longer, or maybe even twice that day to burn a few more calories than normal.

This week, I want to challenge you (and myself) to act like a skinny person.  Get right back on track immediately after a slip up, exercise more, and no negative self talk.  We might not be skinny people but we can sure act like one.

Don't forget you are what you eat. I need to eat a skinny person.

Love this!

Did I forget any behaviors of skinny people?  If so, leave me a comment with how skinny people in your life act!

I love this, but I would say the one thing “skinny people do” that you didn’t touch on is work out a lot/live active lifestyles. The biggest difference in the way me (skinny) and my overweight former roommate lived was the fact that she spent 99% of her time sitting or laying down, while even when I don’t work out in a day I walk at least 2 miles and am active teaching swimming lessons for an hour and a half each day.

Even though that says 23 1/2, you should really aim for 22 1/2 hours and get 1 1/2 hours of activity a day.

oh, that sounds so negative! I love your blog and my heart goes out to you and your situation! I am so proud of your lifestyle change and can’t wait for the day you announce that your family is growing! :)

Exercise has been my true success for me…..I had failed for years…..many years but with healthy eating and daily exercise…..I finally got it….that “aha moment”. I love this blog and I love the fact that you are such an open book to your ups and downs…..thanks for being real and honest with your journey. On the other hand…you can never out exercise a bad diet either!

My skinny sister does not exclude foods. She’ll eat treats, but only a little. After the first bite or two, she’ll stop because in her words, she’s “had the experience”.

vegetable love! My skinny sister eats tons of vegetables and kind of plans her meals around getting enough vegetables. She doesn’t really think about what she shouldn’t eat so much as what she should eat.

Yep, I agree with your thoughts and the commenters, too! When I was skinny I was very active. I walked almost every evening or at my lunch break, I jogged most mornings and I did strength training (mind you I was living at home, right after college with no husband or kids).

It was like second nature. It wasn’t forced and I wanted to do it.

Another difference between the fat me in college and the skinny me after graduation was that I didn’t indulge ALL the time. When I was skinny, I rarely had seconds and I only sometimes ordered dessert. When I was fat, just the opposite.
I also ordered off the kids menu to be forced into eating smaller portions!

I am beginning to get what you mean- I actually just blogged about the changes I have made recently!

So true – after riding the roller coaster I’ve learned the hard way being fit is a lifestyle. Temporary habits bring temporary changes; a permanent lifestyle change is necessary to see lasting results and get the life you want. Because it really is about a life not just weight loss. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us – keeps me motivated on my own journey!

Thanks for the reminder! I love the reminder to GET BACK ON THE WAGON right away if you slip or if you overeat a meal or something! I needed to hear that today, because my husband took me out for a rare lunch out and even though I was as careful as I really could be (stopping at half a portion, what?! and only eating half of the frozen yogurt!!? some serious victories for me!) it still used up more of my daily points that I was hoping since we are eating over with friends tonight. I know there will be salad and I have been prepping myself to fill my plate mostly with that, that but thank you for the extra oomph to my resolve before I start talking myself into the idea that I blew it for the week. The temptation to laziness is so strong about tracking and eating especially the first couple days after a good weigh-in like mine this week, so I keep going up and down between the same two pounds on the scale for over a month now! It is good to hear that I am not alone and hear you pushing forward! We can do this!
