Working Out while Watching TV – Weekly Weigh In

Last night was my weekly Weight Watchers meeting.  I was skeptical going into the meeting due to my big 100 pound weight loss last week.  I had a good week but with celebration dinners and a baby shower, I was unsure if I had made all the right choices.  I did run and sweat right before my meeting so I was optimistic.

When I stepped on the scale, I was happy to hear I had lost 0.4.  Hey…I lost a stick of butter.  I will take it!

Have I mentioned that my Weight Watchers leader, Jacynta, rocks?!?!  She was recently chosen as leader of the year for Weight Watchers and was also awarded a Diamond Leader award.  See, I told you she rocks!

One of our receptionists, Jennifer, was also awarded receptionist of the year.  WOW!!!!

I guess my center really rocks too!  I am one lucky member to be at such an awesome location!  Congratulations you two!  I always knew you were the best!

If you attend Weight Watchers meetings, check out this weeks Weight Watchers Weekly so you can see my leader in it!  Did I mention she is awesome?!?

Jacynta was featured in this weeks Weight Watchers Weekly!

This week’s meeting was about what you are doing while watching television.  This is not a big issue for me.  I generally DVR shows and while watching them, I will be on the treadmill.  One show, Dance Moms, Kristen got me hooked on last summer when we were visiting her parents.  I will ONLY watch that show if I am working out.  If I want to watch it badly enough, I have to  workout in order to watch it.

Last summer, I caught up on ALL the Grey’s Anatomy from the year before while I was working out.  My husband jokingly said he had never seen someone cry on a treadmill before until he saw me working out while watching Grey’s (I thought Kallie and her baby were going to die).

My biggest tip is to workout while watching television.  Your workouts will go by faster(you will be interested in the show and it will take your mind off your workout);  You will workout longer (you will want to watch the end of the show); and you might just work out more often.

Another good thing about working out while watching TV is you are not eating.  If you are a big snacker while TV watching, try working out.  It is much harder to eat, walk, and watch TV all at the same time.

What do you like to do while watching TV?  Are you a big snacker?  If so, how do you tame those snacking tendencies?  Do you workout while watching TV?  If so, what is your favorite show to watch?

About

My name is Jennifer, I’m 33 and I currently live in a suburb outside of Atlanta. I live with my husband, Jason and Shi-tzu, Maggie. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
My full time job is teaching elementary school. My part time job is private tutoring after school for grades K-6. I have been on my weight loss journey my entire life but just began to take it seriously two years ago when I decided it was time to start a family. I didn’t want to be one of those people who others look and and say, “Is she pregnant or just really fat?” At the rate I was going, that question would certainly be asked. So, two years ago I joined Weight Watchers. Now, closing in on losing 100 pounds, my life is healthier and I am happier. Now…bring on the baby!
My blog is here for you to be inspired, learn something new, and hear all about all new products I try. Join me on this weight loss journey as I go through ups and downs, good and bad, and continue to take it one day at a time!

Oddly enough…I don’t watch toooo much TV.  And when I do, it’s just before I doze off.

But I used to be really bad about snacking while watching.  Which, like you said…ain’t good.  One handful leads to seven handfuls before the show is over.

Great tips!  And congrats to your WW leader!   Fab stuff!

Thanks Carrie! I am not much of a tv watcher myself!

Congrats to your WW leader – that’s awesome!  My WW leader is also a Diamond Award Leader – she totally rocks over here in Scotland!  I might have to download Grey’s and watch it while working out – what a fab idea!

I am the same way. I prefer running outside, but in the winter months, that gets difficult because it gets so dark so quickly. So, I motivate myself on the treadmill by watching a show. Then I refuse to stop until it’s over, which means I run for about 40 minutes :)

If I am too tired to run, I try to walk. A lot of the times I start running after a few minutes anywa, but it is easier to get on the treadmill when I think I am just going to walk :)
