Do It For Your Health – Medifast Weekly Weigh In

As I lose weight this year, I really want to focus on my health and how I can become the healthiest version of me. I started the year off by going to the doctor. If you read that post , you will know that is something that I haven’t done for years, yep you heard me correctly, probably 3 years if I had to guess.

I’m happy to report as my blood work and tests have come back in over the last couple of weeks, that I am fairly healthy. A few things came back high (blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure) but nothing warranted medication . Thank you, God!! All of those numbers should come down with weight loss and I can’t wait to report back to you when those numbers start dropping!!

This week, I have also started training for my first 5k of the year. Jennifer and I have decided to do our first one at the end of March. I have started out slowly with just walking this week and next and then I will start a couch to 5k program. I can’t wait to do a 5k when I have actually trained for it!!

I know that being over weight makes you more of a candidate to get diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart disease and a myriad of other problems out there. That scares me and as I am getting older, I am getting a little more scared of these things.

Life is not as easy as it used to be. I am achy when I get up in the mornings. My back hurts if I stand a certain way too long. I’m winded having to walk long distances. I want to be able to get outside and play with my kids and it just be easier. I want life to just be a little easier.

Now to get on my soap box for a minute. Ladies, if it is time for you to get a mammogram, please go get one. I have heard it is embarassing and they are not comfortable and they are just a pain BUT they save lives.

I have a story for you about my best friend. She went in for her first mammogram at the age of 42. Yes, she was two years past due for one but for some reason she had never gone. She went to her doctor who mentioned it was past time for her to go. She ONLY went because of her age and her doctor told her she should go. That was in either October or November of 2013. After several tests, on December 26, yes the day after Christmas, she was told she has breast cancer. It wasn’t anything she could feel or detect without the mammogram.

Luckily, they have caught it very early and it was very, very small. So small, the doctor didn’t even think it was cancer. That just goes to show you that you just never know. If you wouldn’t mind keeping her in your prayers, she is starting out this journey which could be a tough one. I just want her to know that I am so proud that she just took that step and had the mammogram done that probably saved her life!! I know that you are going to kick cancer’s butt!!  I love you girly!!

Keep Calm and Kick Cancer's Butt

Ok…… my soap box now. I had a decent week as far as my eating plan is concerned and am down another 2 pounds. I’ll take it. I would like to see if I can’t get a little bigger of a swoosh in my weight next week. We’ll see. I see a lot of chicken and fish in my diet for this next week.

I am ready to love my body.I want my chances of getting diabetes, cancer, whatever,  to be slim to none. I want to be able to go to the doctor and she tell me that I am the picture of health. I believe that I can get there one day and that I will be the healthiest me that I can be. My kids need me, my husband needs me, my family (parents, sister, brother) all need me around but most of all, I owe it to myself to feel well. To be the best me that God intended for me to be.

What are some things that you struggle with and what do you wish for yourself?
