Daily – Weekly Weigh In

It was another rockin’ week on the scale yesterday.  I knew it was going to be.  Even though my exercise sort of diminished after work started, I still got in four great walks last week and my eating was on point.  I was excited to step on the scale and the number I saw thrilled me even more.

A loss of 2.8!!!!  YAHOO!  I got off the scale and said, “It’s going down.  I’m yellin’ TIMBER!”  “You better move…”  Love that song.  Seriously, so thrilled!

I made some kind of mental decision on January 1 that I was simply going to take this year one day at a time.  No more, no less.  It seems to be working for me so I am sticking with it.

I went to my first Sparkle J-fit meeting last night.  For those of you that are new to my blog, Sparkle is the group that my old Weight Watcher leader started.  It is essentially wellness coaching.  With the ups and downs of life last year, I didn’t get fully involved in her program.  This year, there was a new group starting at a local church and she was going to be the leader.  It was going to be on Monday nights (the nights I weighed in at WW for four years) it was going to be a nice group of people, and it was very affordable.  I knew I needed to go.  It all seemed “right!”

So, last night was our first meeting.  Jacynta talked about the power of one word and how it can change your year.  I wrote about this last year but didn’t really FEEL my word.  This year, when I chose my word, I knew that it was going to be a powerful word for me.


That is my word.  It isn’t necessarily a life changing word.  It isn’t necessarily going to go to print.  But, for me, it could be life changing.  So far this year, it has been.

My word is daily for several reasons.  The biggest of which is I am taking this year one day at a time.  It simply means everyday.  There are some other great synonyms for daily that I found.  Here are a few:

  • Everyday
  • Constantly (HELLO…BIGGIE!)
  • Often
  • Routine

Aren’t those fabulous?  I considered changing my word to one of those but in the end, I decided to stick with daily.  It’s simple and I like that.

Weight loss, if taken daily could be just as simple.  Sometimes we make it so complicated.  Eat less, move more, EVERYDAY!  Period.  I know there are some days that it is much harder than that.  If it were so simple, I wouldn’t weigh 220 pounds.  Life gets in the way.  Emotions get in the way.  We let ourselves get in the way.  But, if we can think of it as daily, we get to start over each and every day.  Period.

So, for this year, that is my word, Daily.  Hence the daily check ins via video.  Hence the daily logging on MyFitnessPal.  Daily.  One day at a time.

I am going to mess up.  Life is not perfect and I will not be perfect this year.  However, I have a new attitude about being perfect.  I don’t have to be.  I just have to try my best, everyday.  When I screw up, guess what?!?  A new day is just around the corner.  I go to bed and I wake up with a fresh start.

This year, let’s simplify things just a bit and take this whole journey on a day to day basis.  Let’s do the best we can, each and every day and let the day before be done.
