I first heard about these Gnu Fiber Bars from another blog that I read frequently. She tried these and loved them because they were not as sweet as other fiber bars she had tasted. That is the exact reason why I did not like some of them. I ordered the sampler for $10.00 off of their website to try the bars and see if they were worth the $1.99 ea. price tag. Now, keep in mind these are VERY healthy boasting a whopping 12 grams of Fiber per bar. They are all natural, low in fat and calories, and have almost half of your daily fiber in one bar. Every bar is 4 Weight Watchers Points Plus. So, here is the breakdown of MY OPINION for each type of bar. I will start with my fav’s.
Cinnamon Raisin Bar-This was delicious! It tasted like an oatmeal raisin cookie without all the fat and sugar. There were chunks of raisins in the bar and you can taste the oats and grains. It was so Yummy. This is my top pick for these bars.
Banana Walnut Bar-Do you like banana bread? If yes, this bar is for you! Tasted very similar to baked banana bread. Again, chunks of walnuts and whole grains. Very, very good.
Orange Cranberry Bar-This was good. It had lots of oranges and cranberries. Again, very healthy, whole-grainy (is that a word) and good. Not my top two but good none the less.
Peanut Butter Bar-For those of you who know me, you know I LOVE peanut butter. So, surprisingly, this is not my top pick. I isn’t because it is not very sweet. It is still good but just ok good not dee-licious good!
Lemon Ginger Bar-HOLY GINGER!!!!! If you like the STRONG taste of ginger, you will like this bar a lot. It is very gingery and very lemony. I must say, the more I ate it, the more I liked it but I would not recommend something that had to “grow on me.”
My least favorites were the Espresso Chip Bar and the Chocolate Brownie Bar. I think it is more of a mind thing with these two flavors. When I expect chocolate, there is a certain taste I am expecting and these did not have them. They were not very sweet and the chocolate was a bit bitter. The Espresso had a harsh coffee flavor and when it is not balanced out with some sweetness, it just tastes like a cup of black coffee (no thanks!).
Overall, the health benefits outweigh the taste for most of these bars. For the steep price of $1,99 each, I don’t know if I would purchase these at the store. Have you tried Gnu bars before? If so, did you find a similar reaction to mine? Please share your thoughts and opinions on this product!
As always, please remember this is just my opinion-take it or leave it!
