Listen to Your Body

I didn’t do my 6 mile run tonight.  I just can’t.

I mean technically I “could.”  But I just don’t think I should.  My body is saying, “NO!”

I had a horrible night last night.  I was up half the night with an upset stomach.  Then, today, I just didn’t feel good at certain points during the day.  There is a stomach bug going around school.  I don’t think I have it but who knows?!?

I just don’t want to risk getting sick or putting myself in danger of lying on the couch all weekend due to illness.

So..I am taking tonight off.

Listen to your body. Know when to say No!

My first time EVER missing half marathon training.  I will live.  My type – A personality is having a hard time with is but it will get over it eventually.

Besides, I don’t even know if I am going to run the half.  I am just training for it just in case.

I’m tired.  I didn’t sleep good last night.  My tummy hurts.  I’m not doing it.

Sometimes we just have to listen to our body.  Take a day off.  Take a rest.  Breathe.  Relax.

It will all be OK.

Have you ever had this happen before?  Have you ever just KNOWN you need to take a day off from exercise?

Absolutely! And it usually happens when I feel like I’m coming down with something. I find if I take that day off, eat well, have a superfood shake, etc., I’m right back at it the next day.

Yes! I am currently training for my first full marathon….just a few days ago I was scheduled for a 4 mile run….I was physically just tired from last Sunday’s long run…..I really didn’t get my “rest” day on Monday that I needed…..and I hadn’t been getting the usuall amount of sleep. My body was just begging for a rest day….so I took the day off from exercise and the next morning my 6 mile run went so much smoother than expected. It was just what I needed! I have found through all my training for half marathons and now this full….that its important to listen to your body…no matter what your schedule says…..those rest days, recovery weeks, and taper runs are there for a reason….use them!!!!!
Good luck on your first half…….I think if you decide to follow through with it you will feel a sense of accomplishment that is very addicting! :)

You made the right decision! It does sound like you might have a stomach flu so a night off to make sure you feel better tomorrow!

I think we all have those days and you’re absolutely right, you have to listen to your body. The last thing you want to do is push yourself too hard and risk injury or illness. You have to give your body a chance to rest and recover. Hope you’re feeling better today!

Yes, today – I have my first half marathon for four years on Sunday – was supposed to be doing a 1.5 recovery run but am still tired from the club run on Wed night so I am definitely taking today off and that will now be it until Sunday – bring it on!!! By the way its the Cardiff Half marathon – for any of you of Welsh descent!!

Great article. I’ve recently changed over to this best selling weightloss tea instead of my regular beverages throughout the day and it’s made a difference to me. It’s totally natural and 100% organic. They have a special offer at the moment which helps. http://www.tea-weightloss.com

I hardly ever get sick but as soon as I do feel myself weakening that’s a sign to slow down and let me body recover. There’s no point in pushing yourself when you’re clearly not at your best.

Thanks for posting! I am struggling with this exact problem – listening to my body and knowing when to say no to a run. It’s good to know I’m not alone. I’ll come back and read this blog often. http://crazedfitness.blogspot.com

In this short weight loss presentation I will teach you a somewhat unusual weight loss strategy that can help you get a flatter belly in under 7 days, while still enjoying the foods you love. This is the first tip that I always teach my patients here in Fishers, IN. And is the same tip that helped one of my patients whom I’m most proud of, (Lori) lose 2 inches from her belly, lose 8 lbs in only 9 days, lose 2 inches from each thigh, lose ¾ of an inch from each arm, and drop 3 dress sizes (At the age of 30, she now wears a smaller dress than she did in high school!).

Lori ultimately lost 90 pounds and I’ll share with you 1 tip that helped her get there. I can’t leave this video up for long, so be sure to watch it from beginning to end while it’s still here. Please note: If you leave the page and come back, the video will automatically restart at the beginning.

    Thanks and enjoy!!!!
