Half-Marathon Training – {Update}

Three weeks from yesterday, I will have finished my first half-marathon.  Holy cannoli!

I am excited, nervous, anxious, and scared all rolled up into one.  One thing I know for sure is I have trained.  I have stuck to my half-marathon training schedule religiously.  I have not missed one training day yet!  For that, I am very proud of myself.

I also know I am getting faster.

As you can see, I rocked my timed 10k last night.  I felt so good when I was done!

I am also getting more confident.  I now know that I will not only finish this race but I will finish this race strong!  I get emotional when I think about race day.  This has been a goal for a long time and I am actually going to do this.

Now, one question for all of you who run.  What apparel should I run in?  I am used to running in t-shirts but I feel like I need a moisture wicking top to get the sweat away from my body.  The problem is, I don’t like tops that are too tight.  I have too many fat rolls for that!  Can anyone recommend a top to purchase that isn’t too clingy but does the job?

Three more weeks.  I’ve got this!

    yay!  I am so excited for you!!!  I find your blog inspirational as I attempt to avoid the Girl Scout Cookies and train for my first half in May!!

    As to the running shirts, go to Tarjay.  You knew that answer, right?  LOL  They have A nice selection right now of different necklines and sleeve lengths that are not all clingy and terrible, plus you won’t feel guilty taking a $15 shirt and putting your name on it so people know what to CHEER as you RUN BY!!

    This looks great!  Kudos!  I will second the recommendation to Target.  Their C9 apparel has good wicking abilities and they sell styles that are not overly form fitting.  You will appreciate the tech material as you sweat for 2+ hours on race day.

    Question: what are your abbreviations on your training log?  AI?  GP?  (Goal pace?)

    I also recommend Target.  I feel the same away about clingy shirts.  I buy the XXL when I could fit snugly in a L and comfortably in a XL.  I like that they don’t look sloppy even in the larger sizes.  Great job on the training!  If you think you are emotional now, just wait until you cross that finish line.

    In high school even the captain of our cross country team can’t pull of 12 miles.  I would love to try this one day when there’s an event in my city.

    I have one of these in five different colors…two are shirts like this and three are tank tops. I LOVE THEM for running, and they wash perfectly. I wear them constantly, and they still look brand new. If you are used to running in a t-shirt, I would go for the t-shirt one. Also, make sure whatever you get that you go for a regular run it in before the actual race. That way you break it in and don’t suffer from chafing!
